Les rapports entre identité et territoire occupent aujourd'hui une place centrale, de nature à susciter débat. L'usage de chacun des deux termes explique en partie un tel intérêt. C'est aussi le contexte contemporain qui appelle réflexion : mobilité, gouvernement des villes, recompositions territoriales… Migrations et frontières, rôles respectifs de l'espace et de l'organisation sociale, rôle du politique dans la construction d'un « nous », opposition mobilité/sédentarité, multiplicité des appartenances, rapport à l'espace habité et au patrimoine : la confusion entre des acceptions savantes et pratiques des termes, la hiérarchisation des espaces allant du local au national, interrogent dès lors l'usage qui en est fait. Le territoire a souvent une « double face », les référents identitaires mobilisés par ses habitants sont divers, cachés ou exposés, soumis à ajustements perpétuels. L'identification par le lieu repose question. En contexte de mobilité ou de perte du territoire, quelle pertinence accorder au sentiment d'appartenance à un espace ?
